The Basic Life Support or BLS certification online is a targeted coursework toward anyone 16 years or older. Most Health Care Professionals or HCP’s, go through the training on how to resort to immediate response in case of common medical emergencies as a rescuer. Common techniques used by trained professionals include and not limited to; EMTs, paramedics, lifeguards and other personnel in charge of emergency response.

What is BLS

BLS certification programmes train individuals and corporate entities how to perform live saving techniques on adults, children and even infants. Basic Life Support essentially aims to keep the victim, suffering from life-threatening conditions alive until being transferred to a hospital or during transfers to different medical centres.

The Course

The BLS certification course initiates with a brief intro to basic life support. Also providing valuable insights on the legalities in place for the particular state and regards to those who provide medical assistance to unknown parties. For example, medical personnel who administer CPR or AED to save lives are usually protected against any legal proceedings that are negative. This is a clear example of the value of the course and studying it, even if you are not required to do. You never know when you might have to help someone in need.

Who Typically Needs a BLS Certification?

As the BLS certification course places a huge emphasis on CPR for the medical emergencies, as well as additional, basic life support trainings, most companies or organizations requiring BLS certification employ:

  • Medical personnel
  • EMTs
  • Nurses
  • Lifeguards
  • Police officers
  • Firefighters
  • Bus drivers
  • Safety managers
  • Nannies
  • Babysitters
  • School teachers
  • Flight Attendants

The BLS certification Provides more Comprehensive CPR Training

That being out of the way, many of the organizations are choosing to get an upgraded onsite training menu, by providing BLS over CPR, to provide more comprehensive information and through training for their employees. Professions that are seeming to benefit from this BLS certification include:

  • School Teachers
  • Coaches
  • Day-care providers
  • Those who are working in a higher-risk environment.
  • Construction workers
  • Taxi drivers

Should you renew?

The main reason to get the certification renewal and skill classes is one that is to secure and enhance not just your knowledge but also the safety of the patients under your care.

As a certified BLS provider it is your duty to make sure that you are constantly educating yourself about the proper means, procedure and administration of healthcare, so that you are administering the care with the utmost knowledge and efficiency of care.

An example of how these basic methods differ in the medical community and why this might be a good reason to let yourself learn the proper methods to resuscitate is the rate and depth of the chest compressions.  As newer and more recent studies suggest that the efficiency of CPR compressions depends on the ratios of compressions to breaths change. Therefore it is of extreme importance to stay current on the latest guidelines from the AHA to make sure you are taking the best care of your patients to the best of your ability.
